Techtron has been working with a UK-based dog grooming training academy to develop their own-brand professional grooming range.
This was a new customer for Techtron in 2022 and they wanted to develop their own grooming products, as an additional revenue stream for their academy and a way of retaining a strong customer base with repeat purchases. Before contact was made with Techtron the grooming academy were buying products from a major pet care product distributor and then reselling the distributor’s branded products to their customer base. They realised that they would be able to achieve additional revenue if they had their own range of products. This is because they could offer a uniquely branded product with higher margins and no direct competition with other businesses selling the same products.
Firstly, we worked with our customer to select suitable products from our private label range and they chose three shampoos: an oatmeal, deep clean and a whitening shampoo. Additionally, they picked out a fast dry spray and a detangling spray.
In the process of developing their own range for the training academy, it was decided to change the concentration of the dog shampoos, for them to be able to sell to the public, and use in a professional setting for cost and efficiency savings purposes.
Dog shampoos in our private label range are typically formulated with a 10:1 dilution ratio. This level of concentration is perfect for consumers as it can be used neat for really dirty dogs or diluted for an economical wash. The academy’s main audience for their products has been identified as professionals in the dog grooming industry. These consumers have an expectation to use products that are highly concentrated to lower the cost per wash for each dog that is groomed. Our team in the lab worked on the formulation of the shampoos and increased the dilution ratio from 10:1 to 20:1 and 33:1.
With the Fast Dry and Detangling spray, we guided the customer through our standard private label process. Our private label process offers a faster to market approach as all products have completed both product stability and packaging compatibility that allows customers to benefit immediately from the initial income.
The new, highly concentrated shampoos went through our product stability and packaging stability testing process to determine a minimum shelf life of two years and to also confirm that the product was supplied in packaging that was appropriate.
Clare Rowe, General Manager at Techtron, says:
“It has been a real pleasure to help our customer develop their own range of products and do all we can to help them increase their revenue.
“Much of our day-to-day work is about problem solving and we know how delighted they are to be able to use such excellent products in their training academy and also add this as a retail option for their customers.”
Following our initial range development, they were so pleased with the outcome that they have returned to us for additional products and have selected three colognes from our private label range. The customer understands how we operate to produce these products, giving them reassurance that all our products are of high quality and can be launched quickly.
